Sir John MAYNARD 1604-90
Biographical Note
Born at Abbey House in Tavistock, Devon; son of Alexander Maynard (b.c.1567). BA Exeter College, Oxford; entered the Middle Temple in 1621. Called to the bar in 1626. Elected MP for Totnes and recorder for Plymouth in 1640; recorder for Totnes in 1645. MP for Newton, Isle of Wight in 1659. Appointed to serve as commissioner of the great seal in 1689.
