Anne STANHOPE or HOLLES, dowager Countess of Clare 1575-1651
Biographical Note
Daughter of Thomas Stanhope, of Shelford priory, Nottinghamshire. She married John Holles, later 1st Earl of Clare, in 1591.
Books
The Portland manuscripts in the University of Nottingham include “A note of my mothers book[s] writ with her own hand”, dated 1649, listing 164 books (University of Nottingham, Portland mss Pw V 4 pp.192-194).
