Clement SPELMAN 1598-1679
Biographical Note
Of Norfolk, Clement was the youngest son of Sir Henry Spelman and brother of Sir John Spelman. Admitted to Gray's Inn in 1614, and Queens' College, Cambridge, in 1616, Clement was called to the bar in 1624.
Books
Various manuscript lists of Henry’s books and manuscripts survive, made at various points in the 17th century. Many of his books, together with those of later members of the family, went to Swaffham parish library via Clement's bequest; others were auctioned in London, 28.11.1709, 23.1.1710 (joint sale, with one other).
