Registrar for the diocese of Peterborough 1603, chancellor 1615, commissary of the archdeaconry of Leicester 1617, Dean of the Arches 1633; he held various other ecclesiastical legal appointments, and was much involved in disputes in opposition to puritan practices, throughout his career.

Lambe gave 21 manuscripts to William Laud in 1632, which he passed on to the Bodleian Library. More than 115 books, valued at £28 6s 3d, were seized from him by the London Committee for Sequestration in 1643, and partly sold. An inventory survives in the Committee's records in The National Archives.
