William TAYLOR ca.1697-1741
Biographical Note
Second son of Francis Taylor of South Littleton, Worcestershire. He was admitted at the Inner Temple in 1722, became a barrister in 1724, and moved to the Middle Temple in 1725. He established a successful legal practice and bought an estate at Middle Hill, Broadway, Worcestershire, where he built a large house. He was MP for Evesham 1734-41, and is known to have had Jacobite sympathies.
Books
Taylor used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 29035), made when he was attached to the Inner Temple. The extent of his library is not known; his will has no mention of books, which would have been part of the residue of his estate bequeathed to his friend Robert Surman, a London banker.
