Richard GODFREY d.1732
Biographical Note
A Master in Chancery and member of the Inner Temple, whose will refers to a deceased wife and daughter, and a living infant daughter. He evidently died in financial difficulties, as his will refers to the "prosecution or rather persecution that I have laboured under".
Books
In his will, Godfrey stated that his "cruel prosecutors have left me none but my books and wearing apparel". His library was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 23 January 1733, along with the books of George Walker (unidentified but also recently deceased). No catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in several newspapers.
