Biographical Note

Son of Richard Whitehall, of Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire. BA Merton College, Oxford 1682, MA 1684, subsequently fellow and Vice-Principal of New Inn Hall. Curate of Stanton Harcourt.

Books

Whitehall’s library was auctioned in Oxford by George West, 11 March 1700. The sale catalogue lists ca.1660 lots (the surviving copy, in the Bodleian Library, is imperfect and lacks the last page or so), divided into Latin theology and miscellaneous (819 lots), French, Italian and Spanish miscellaneous (132) and English divinity, history and miscellaneous (ca.710). Most of the books are 17th-century imprints, with about 100 16th-century. Whitehall’s will (Oxfordshire RO ms.Wills Oxon. 156/3/46 suggests the collection was valued at ca.£100.
