Philip BURTON 1692/3-1727

Biographical Note

Son of Philip Burton of London, gentleman. Matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford 1708, but did not graduate; entered Lincoln's Inn, where he became a barrister in 1721.

Books

Burton used an engraved armorial bookplate, describing himself as of the Exchequer Office, Lincoln's Inn (Franks 4566); the extent of his library is not known. His will has no mention of books; after monetary bequests to members of his family, the residue of his estate was left to trustees to sell for the benefit of his mother.
