Biographical Note

Not identified with certainty, but possibly the man of this name "of Lincolns Inn, gentleman" who died in 1723; his brief will has no mention of books, and all the residue of his estate (after monetary bequests) was left to be divided between his two nephews Richard and John Michell.

Books

Hutton's library was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 7 January 1730, together with the books of Thomas Kimpson. The titlepage of the sale catalogue announced "a large collection of books, relating to the history, antiquities, and constitution of Great-Britain and Ireland; of the history of most foreign nations, and the antiquities of several of their principalities and counties: of architecture, sculpture, law, divinity, trade, husbandry, and classicks, in Usum Delphini, of the Paris editions, with several printed by Aldus, Rob. Stephens, and other curious printers: with a great many Italian books printed by Giolilo, Juntae, &c." There were also "an hundred volumes of vellum mss. on various subjects".
