Henry CLIFTON d.1719

Biographical Note

Clifton's early career and education have not been traced; he was a member of the Middle Temple, but is not found in the university lists. His will, in which he describes himself as "of Hoxton", refers to property in Nottinghamshire and Middlesex.

Books

Clifton's library was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 25 July 1719, and continuing for several months; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Courant and Post Boy, as "consisting of very valuable books, chiefly law". His will has no mention of books, and his property was largely bequeathed across relatives and his "trusty servant Jane Fish" (there is no mention of a wife or children).
