Biographical Note

Born in London, son of Adam Bellamy, a merchant. Matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge 1695, but did not graduate; admitted at the Inner temple 1697, at Gray's Inn 1698, and subsequently pursued a legal career (he describes himself, in his will, as "of Gray's Inn").

Books

There is no mention of books in Bellamy's brief will, which left everything to his friend Mrs Elizabeth Jones, widow, actively excluding "my unnatural daughter". His library was sold by retail sale in London, together with that of "another learned gentleman deceas'd", beginning 16 February 1711; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in The Daily Courant as being "a valuable collection of books of law, divinity, history, etc, many with good references; also manuscripts and collections of choice tracts".
