Sir Charles ORBY, 2nd baronet ca.1640-1715

Biographical Note

Eldest son of Thomas Orby of London. Succeeded as baronet with the death of his father in 1692. The family seat was Croyland Abbey in Lincolnshire.

Books

At least part of Orby's library was sold by auction in London alongside the household goods of his brother Thomas' widow on 10 May 1727. The auction was advertised in the Daily Post and the Daily Journal. Advertisements describe the inclusion of manuscripts from India and China, which belonged to Thomas' brother, Charles: Note, the greater part of this fine collection came to the late Lady from Sir Charles Orby, who was twice married to two India Merchants Widows, the one Mrs Besen, the other a daughter of Lady Muddiford".
