Biographical Note
Lapthorne was a lawyer at New Inn, and the London agent of Richard Coffin, who tasked him with buying books. Their correspondence, in the Devon archive, is a source of information on the book trade in the late seventeenth century.
Books
Lapthorne's "entire collection" of books was sold by retail sale in London from 22 March 1727. The sale was advertised in the Craftsman, the Daily Post and the Daily Journal.
