John Hynde Cotton's Bookplate (Pembroke College Locked section E.3.41)

Biographical Note

Of Madingley Hall, Cambridgeshire. Great-grandson of Sir Robert Cotton. Educated at Westminster School and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. House of Commons in 1708-1722. He was a Jacobite Tory, known for his emphatic support of the Jacobite cause.

Characteristic Markings

Cotton's armorial bookplate features the motto "Fidelitas Vincet".
