Philip STRINGER d.1605

Biographical Note

BA St John's College, Cambridge 1567/8, fellow 1568 and MA 1571. He held a number of college positions, including auditor and steward, and was esquire bedell of the university 1579-92, and also held the university solicitorship. Further roles included Justice of the Peace of the town, registrar of Peterborough diocese, and leaseholder of university lands in Cambridgeshire.

Books

Stringer's probate inventory includes over 50 books, valued at £3 6s 1d (from a total estate valued at £15 8s 5d). The books are mostly in English, with some Latin and Italian. They are predominantly legal in nature alongside some theology, history and other subjects. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.181 (see full citation below).
