Biographical Note

He is recorded as 'Third son of Robert Udny of Auchterellon, Ellon, and Elizabeth Fullerton, his wife. Alumnus, Mar. Coll. [Marischal College, Aberdeen], 1700-1, etc. ; M.A., King's Coll. [Aberdeen], 1724. App. to Alexander Thomson (1680). Procurator for the Town Council of Aberdeen from 30th November, 1709. Sheriff Clerk of Kincardineshire, 1716-22. Procurator Fiscal of Aberdeenshire, 1723-27. Sheriff Substitute of Aberdeenshire, 1727-37, and 1747-48. Clerk to the Governors and Patrons of Robert Gordon's Hospital, from May, 173 (Littlejohn's Sheriff Court Records, III., pp. 115 and 117.) Sometime Joint County Clerk of Aberdeenshire. One of the Assessors to the Rector of King's Coll., 1728-33. Fiars Juror, 1737. Married, 20th December, 1716, Jean (died 22nd August, 1770, aged 75), dau. of the late Alexander Walker, sometime Lord Provost of Aberdeen, with issue (besides six sons and three daughters who died in early youth)'.
