William NEILE 1560-1624
Biographical Note
Born at Westminster. Worked in the service of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, before becoming in 1612 steward to his brother Richard Neile, who was then Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry and later Archbishop of York. William was ordained in 1616 and became Rector of Sutton in the Marsh, Lincolnshire.
Books
Jason Scott-Warren has traced a number of surviving books with Neile's inscriptions; his will refers to over 800 books, bequeathed among members of his family.
