Thomas ITHELL d. 1579

Biographical Note

Son of Pierce Ithell of Billesdon, Leicestershire. BA Magdalene College, Cambridge 1553/4, MA 1557, and LL.D 1563. He was a fellow of Magdalene before becoming master of Jesus College in 1563. Admitted advocate in 1569, and became commissary of the university in 1578/9. He held multiple ecclesiastical livings, and was Chancellor of Ely 1567-1579.

Books

Ithell's probate inventory includes over 70 books, valued at £21 3s 3d (from a total estate valued at £105 1s 11d). The books are mostly in Latin, with some in English, and they are exclusively legal in nature. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.143 (see full citation below).
