Baptized at Stepney, Middlesex; son of John Harington (1539/40-1613). Educated at Sidney Sussex, Cambridge, 1607-8. Created a knight of the Bath in 1604 and developed a close friendship with Prince Henry. Books
In 1616 Anne (ca.1554-1620), widow of John, 1st Baron Harington (1539/40-1613) gave ca.120 books to found a parish library for Oakham, Rutland; in 1626 her daughter Lucy Russell, Countess of Bedford (1581-1627) gave books to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. Both sets are likely to have belonged originally to John the 2nd Baron, and/or other members of the family.
