Biographical Note
Of Nottinghamshire. BA St John’s College, Cambridge 1576, fellow 1577, MA 1579, BD 1586, President 1590. Provost of Trinity College, Dublin 1601-9.
Books
Alvey bequeathed a number of his own books, and 100 marks for the purchase of books, to St John’s. Ca.50 of these books remain in the library today, mostly theological.
Characteristic Markings
The books given to or bought by St John's carry either a written inscription marking the donation, or a printed label.
