Francis FULFORD 1666-1700

Biographical Note

Born at Great Fulford, Devon, son of Francis Fulford, a member of a long established gentry family there. Matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford 1682, but did not graduate. Inherited the family estate from his father in 1675. MP for Callington 1690-1700; sheriff of Devon and Mayor of Exeter 1689-90.

Books

Fulford's lengthy will, largely concerned with the disposal of the family estate, has no mention of books; all his goods and chattels were left to his wife Mary. The size of his library is not known but he had an engraved bookplate made, dated 1699 (Franks 11466). Examples: Maggs 1140 (1992)/121.
