John SYME d.ca.1719

Biographical Note

Syme is described by the sale catalogue of his library as 'the very learned and ingenious... late Professor of Hebrew in the New College of St Andrews'. He seems to have taken the position at St Mary's College in the 1690s.

Syme's library was sold at auction beginning 7 April 1719 in Edinburgh. The books were described as being a 'rare and curious collection, consisting chiefly of Hebrew, rabbinical and other oriental learning, languages, &c'.
