Biographical Note
Syme is described by the sale catalogue of his library as 'the very learned and ingenious... late Professor of Hebrew in the New College of St Andrews'. He seems to have held the position at St Mary's from the 1690s until his death.

Syme's library was sold at auction beginning 7 April 1719 in Edinburgh. The books were described as being a 'rare and curious collection, consisting chiefly of Hebrew, rabbinical and other oriental learning, languages, &c'.
