Biographical Note
Born in London, son of William Grove of Morden, Dorset. BA St John's College, Cambridge 1657, fellow 1659, MA 1660, BD 1667, DD 1681. Chaplain to the Bishop of London 1667 and rector of Wennnington, Essex. Rector of Langham, Essex 1669 and rector of Aldham; of St Andrew Undershaft, London 1670. Prebendary of St Paul's 1679, Bishop of Chichester 1691. He was noted as an advocate of the Church of England, against dissenters, and published numerous works in that cause.
Books
Grove died suddenly and unexpectedly, following a coaching accident, leaving his family financially unprepared. His library was auctioned in London by John Bullord, beginning 27.4.1697. The sale catalogue includes 2074 lots, divided between Latin theology (478 lots), Latin miscellaneous (839), English miscellaneous (including theology, history, geography and poetry) (736), and stitched books, pamphlets, papers etc (21).
