Biographical Note
Born at Cork, Ireland, daughter of Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Cork (1566-1643). She married Charles Rich, 4th Earl of Warwick. Moving to Leighs, Essex, Mary played an active role in her local community and donated much of her income to charitable causes. She authored various spiritual and autobiographical works and manuscript diaries, (BL Add MS 27351-5) which contain extensive references to her reading in her closet.
