Joseph WELD 1651-1712

Joseph Weld's bookplate (British Museum Franks Collection *377)

Biographical Note

Son of Gascoigne Weld of Tasburgh, Norfolk. Matriculated at Christ's College, Cambridge 1668, but did not graduate; admitted at the Middle Temple 1673 (barrister, 1679). Recorder of Bury St Edmunds from 1689; MP there 1709-12.

Books

Weld used an engraved armorial bookplate dated 1703 (Franks *377); the extent and disposition of his library are not known.
