Joseph KELSEY d.1710
Biographical Note
Of Lincolnshire. BA Queens' College, Cambridge 1656, fellow 1658, MA 1659, BD 1668, junior proctor 1666-7. Rector of Framsden, Suffolk 1662, prebendary of Salisbury 1674, archdeacon of Sarum 1695.
Books
Kelsey's will has no mention of books; after monetary bequests to his family, all the residue of his goods and estate was left to his wife Mary. His library was auctioned in Oxford, 17.3.1712; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Courant, where it was mentioned that it included a number of mathematical books. Examples: Salisbury Cathedral Library B.4.23.
Characteristic Markings
Salisbury Cathedral B.4.23, a copy of P. Soave, Historia del Concilio Tridentino, Geneva, 1629 is inscribed "For Mr Kelsy of Queenes Colledge" and has his inscription "Josephi Kelsei liber" on the flyleaf; he gave it to Isaac Walton in 1695.
