Simon RUTLAND 1659-1682

Biographical Note

Son of Simon Rutland, of Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. M.B. Christ’s College, Cambridge, 1680. Practised as a physician in Brentwood, Essex, where he died of smallpox on his 23rd birthday.

Books

Rutland’s “Bibliotheca medica”, together with the library of Cresswell Whateley (Rector of Tadmarton, d.1682), was auctioned in London by Edward Millington, 23 April 1683. The medical books, at the end of the catalogue, comprise 704 lots (Latin, 550; English 154).
