Anne CARLETON, Viscountess Dorchester d.1639
Biographical Note
Daughter of Sir Henry Glemham, of Glemham, Suffolk; married firstly Paul Bayning, Viscount Bayning, and after his death in 1629, Dudley Carleton, Viscount Dorchester (1574-1632). In 1637 she moved to Gosfield Hall, Essex.
Books
Lady Carleton's detailed probate inventory includes a one-line entry for "bookes in the lower gallery", valued at £78 18s 10d. Heidi Hackel estimated that this might have translated into something between 100 and 400 volumes.
