Judith ISHAM or LEWIN 1590-1625

Biographical Note

Daughter of William Lewin of Otterden, Kent, lawyer. In 1607 she married Sir John Isham of Lamport Hall, Northamptonshire, with whom she had three children, Elizabeth, Judith and Justinian.

Books

The Isham family library at Lamport Hall was developed over many generations, beginning around the turn of the 17th century. Elizabeth Isham's diaries refer to her mother teaching her reading, and providing her with books, and a list of her mother’s books, made in 1649, is edited as PLRE 270. This includes ca.25 books, largely theological and devotional, but including some books of poetry and household management. The books are all in English.
