William BURTON 1560-1623
Biographical Note
Born at Carshalton, Surrey, son of Richard Burton (the family were landowners in Carshalton over several generations). BA King's College, Cambridge 1583, MA 1586, fellow 1581-94; regius professor of physic at Cambridge, ca.1596-1693.
Books
In his will, Burton bequeathed to King's College his "two volumes of Sr Thomas Moores works"; all the rest of his books were left to his nephew, Sir Henry Burton KB (1578-1645). The size of his collection is not known.
