James CHAMBERLAINE 1635?-1684
Biographical Note
Born at East Shelton, Leicestershire, son of James Chamberlaine, clerk. BA St John's College, Cambridge 1655, fellow 1655, MA 1658, BD 1665. Rector of Friern Barnet, Middlesex 1673.
Books
Chamberlaine bequeathed £100 to St John's, for the purchase of books. His library was auctioned at Stourbridge Fair, 8.9.1686. The sale catalogue contains 1350 lots, divided between Latin theology, history, philology etc (681 lots), and English divinity, history, philology and "humanity" (669). The copy of the catalogue in St John's College Library, Dd.9.15(2) (which belonged to Thomas Baker) is marked up with prices.
