Laurence HYDE, 1st Earl of Rochester 1642-1711
Biographical Note
2nd son of Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon (1609-1674). MP for Newport in 1660, Oxford University in 1661 and Wootton Bassett in 1679. Made Master of the Robes in 1662 and held this post until 1678. In 1676, Charles II appointed him ambassador-extraordinary to the king of Poland.
Characteristic Markings
Used an engraved armorial bookplate.
