Sir William THOMPSON d.1695
Biographical Note
Details of his early career and education have not been traced; he was a member of the Middle Temple, and became a Serjeant at law, and was knighted in 1689.
Books
In his will, Thompson directed that his library of books be divided between his two sons Stephen (later attorney-general of Virginia) and William (later an MP and judge), "as is usuall in cases of that nature". The extent of his library is not known. Examples: Blickling Hall 20.f.19.
Characteristic Markings
Thompson used a large engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 29303).
