Anthony RICHARDSON 1583/4-1665

Biographical Note

Born in Cumberland. BA Queen's College, Oxford 1602, MA 1605, proctor 1613, BD 1614. Rector of West Camel, Somerset 1615, and of Kingsdon 1626; ejected ca.1646, when he was accused of reading the Book of Common Prayer and of giving a horse and money to the royal army, but restored in 1660.

Books

An account of his sequestration states that £10 worth of books were taken from him at that time, but subsequently returned. His will, which reveals a modest estate capable of including monetary bequests totalling around £200, has no mention of books; all the residue of his personal estate was left to his kinsman Walter Charlton, physician in London.

Characteristic Markings

None of Richardson's books have been identified.
