Edward PHELIPPS or PHILIPPS or PHELIPS ca.1613-1680
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Edward Phelipps of Montacute, Somerset, a long-established family there. Matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford 1629, but did not graduate; he inherited the family estates from his father in 1638. MP for Ilchester 1640-44, and for Somerset 1661; he held numerous local administrative offices.
Books
A number of 17th-century books are recorded in the Armorials Database with a stamp of the family crest (a burning brazier), attributed to him, although it is noted that the stamp was used by later members of the family who continued to develop the library.
