Biographical Note
Of Edmonton, Middlesex, and Lulworth, Dorset. Son of Sir John Weld (1582-1622) and his wife, Frances (d.1656). Matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge 1629; admitted toInner Temple 1630. Became acquainted with the Roman Catholic, Peter Fitton, while travelling on the continent 1633-6 and became a devout Catholic himself. MP for Christchurch, Hampshire in 1661, JP for Dorset 1660-79 and Cambridgeshire 1677-9.
