Hambleton CUSTANCE 1715-1757
Biographical Note
Son of John Custance of Norwish. Matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1733, but did not graduate; in the same year, he was admitted at Lincoln's Inn where he became a barrister in 1743. A 1748 painting by Francis Hayman now in the Tate Gallery depicts Custance with his friend Thomas Nuthall, solicitor to the East India Company.
Books
Custance used an engraved bookplate, made presumably when he was at Cambridge, on which he is identified only as H.C C.C.C.C. (Franks 7737). The extent of his library is not known.
