Francis FULFORD 1666-1700

Biographical Note

Born at Great Fulford, Devon, son of Francis Fulford, a member of a long established gentry family there. Matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford 1682, but did not graduate. Inherited the family estate from his father in 1675. MP for Callington 1690-1700; sheriff of Devon and Mayor of Exeter 1689-90.

Books

Fulford's lengthy will, largely concerned with the disposal of the family estate, has no mention of books; all his goods and chattels were left to his wife Mary. The size of his library is not known but he had an engraved bookplate made, dated 1699 (Franks 11466/*307). Examples: Maggs 1140 (1992)/121.
