John BINGHAM 1612/3-1689
Biographical Note
Born at Derby, son of Henry Bingham. BA Magdalene College, Cambridge 1636. Master of the free school, Derby 1640-62. Vicar of Marston upon Dove, Derbyshire, 1656; ejected 1662, after which he moved to Bradley Hall, where he took in and taught gentlemen’s sons. He later moved to Brailsford, where he was excommunicated for preaching, after which he moved to Upper Thurvaston, near Sutton. He was noted for his scholarship, particularly in oriental languages, and he helped Brian Walton in the editing of the 1657 polyglot Bible.
