Sir Francis PRUJEAN 1597-1666
Biographical Note
Son of Francis Prujean, rector of Boothby, Lincolnshire. BA Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge 1614, MA 1617, MD 1625, licenciate of the College of Physicians by 1621 (fellow, 1626). He practised as a physician in London and Lincolnshire; he was successively censor, registrar and president of the College of Physicians during the 1640s and 50s. He was knighted in 1661.
Books
More than 160 books, valued at £14 0s 9d, were seized from his London house by the London Committee for Sequestration in 1643, and sold. An inventory survives in the Committee records, in The National Archives. In his will, he left all his library of books, along with his "rarities, instruments, and ... pictures" to his grandson Robert Prujean; the extent of his library at the time of his death is not known.
