Sir Jeffrey BURWELL 1606-84
Biographical Note
Son of Edward Burwell of Woodbridge, Suffolk, draper. The family were established merchant gentry in Suffolk. Matriculated at Gonville and Caius, College, Cambridge 1629, but did not graduate; admitted at Gray's Inn 1627 (barrister, 1636). He developed a successful legal practice, bought Rougham Place, Suffolk in 1645, and was knighted in 1663,

Books with his armorial stamp survive (several are inscribed by his daughter, Mary, who married Robert Walpole of Houghton, Norfolk).
