Thomas ROWE or ROE 1656/7-1705

Biographical Note

Born in London, son of John Rowe, independent minister. He was educated at the dissenting academy of Theophilus Gale, and succeeded Gale as head of the academy, and as Pastor to the independent congregation in Holborn in 1679. Noted as an effective teacher, some of his lecture schemes survive in the Gifford Papers at Bristol Baptist College.

Books

Rowe's library “of near 5000 volumes” was auctioned in London, 13.6.1715. No catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in The Daily Courant; it is assumed that this is the Thomas Rowe in question, and not the author (1687-1715).
