The library of Richard Smith (who has not been identified) was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 8 December 1732. No catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Journal and Daily Post as "consisting of near 4000 volumes, in history, divinity, classicks, voyages, travels, mathematicks, architecture, sculpture, painting, medals, common and civil law, &c ... with a parcel of curious manuscripts to be sold together or separate".
