Richard CRAKANTHORP or CRAKANTHORPE 1568-1624
Biographical Note
Born at Little Strickland, Westmorland; son of John Crakanthorpe. Matriculated Queen's College, Oxford in 1583, BA 1587, MA 1590; fellow of Queen's in 1598. Appointed Chaplain to Lord Evers in 1603, travelling with him to Germany, and to Thomas Ravis, the bishop of London, upon his return. Made Rector of Black Notley, Essex in 1605 and of Paglesham, Essex in 1617. A Calvinist author and noted preacher, he was acquainted with Calvinist theologians such as Henry Airay, Robert Abbot, and Thomas James.
Books
Crakanthorp's library, valued at £230, was left in his will to his son John. His interleaved Bible, heavily annotated by him, survives in the Gibson Library at Saffron Walden.
