Michael ROSSE fl.1670-1723

Biographical Note

Rosse was a prosperous jeweller, who was married to the miniaturist Susan Penelope Rosse (neé Gibson). They are thought to have married in the 1670s, and are known to have lived in Henrietta Street, Covent Garden. He was possibly a founding member of the Society of the Virtuosi of St Luke.

Books

Rosse's 'intire collection' of prints, drawings, limnings, 'antique seals, medals and other curiosities' (including many of his wife's paintings) was old at auction from 2 April 1723, as he intended to 'retire into the country for the recovery of his health'. By 5 April 1723 the sale had adjourned for the holidays, and it restarted on 26 April 1723.
