Mary HALLEY ca.1660-1741
Born in London, daughter of Christopher Tooke, auditor of the exchequer and Margaret Kinder. Together with her two sisters she inherited the property of her father. She married Edmond Halley, the astronomer, in 1682, and had at least five children, three of whom survived beyond infancy.
She had a printed book label (‘Mrs. Mary Halley / May the 21. Anno. Dom. 1687’): Lee 214 (with evidence of its use in a book containing an inscription recording a gift to her from her husband in 1685).
