Joseph TAYLOR 1693?-1746
Biographical Note
Son of Captain Joseph Taylor, naval officer, of Plymouth, from whom he inherited the family estates in 1733. Matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford 1710, but did not graduate; admitted at the Middle Temple, 1712. MP for Ashburton, 1739-41.
Books
Taylor used an engraved armorial bookplate, dated 1710, made when he was at Oxford (Franks 29005). The extent and disposition of his library is not known; his lengthy will is largely concerned with money and property, and has no mention of books (his residual goods and chattels were left in trust to his wife and others, to be sold or disposed of at their discretion).
