Sir Henry HUNLOKE or HUNLOCK, 2nd bart 1645-1715

Biographical Note

Son of Sir Henry Hunloke, 1st baronet, of Wingerworth, Derbyshire, from whom he inherited the title and estates at the age of three when the father died in 1648. Admitted at Gray's Inn 1654; matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge 1662, but did not graduate. Sheriff of Derbyshire, 1687.

Books

The extent of Hunloke's library is not known, but a number of copies survive of a large engraving of his arms, dating from ca.1675-85, which was apparently used as a bookplate (Franks 15732). His will has no mention of books; all the residue of his estate, real and personal, was left to his eldest son Thomas Windsor Hunloke, who succeeded as 3rd baronet.

Characteristic Markings

The bookplates survive in bookplate collections, having been removed from any books in which they had been inserted.
