George Andrew Ruperti 1670-1731
George Andrew RUPERTI 1670-1731
Biographical Note
Born Georg Andreas Ruperti, son of Andreas Ruperti, pastor at Bartelfelde Stein in Germany. He moved to England to become chaplain to George I's German chapel at St James's, and minister of the Lutheran Church in the Savoy. In 1717 he bought a house in Chiswick, which was later (1749) purchased from his widow by William Hogarth. If his will is true, at the time of his death "I can leave nothing to my family for when all my debts are paid there will hardly be anything left".
Books
In his will, Ruperti directed that Mr Palm should make a catalogue of his books, to prepare them for auction, and that he should receive copies of Friedrich Lankisch's German/Hebrew Biblical concordance, in folio and quarto, as reward. His library was auctioned in London, beginning 20 March 1732; the sale comprised 1090 lots.
